In addition to the featured activities shown on the below sample itinerary, there are many more options available to keep you occupied in Port St John’s.
Spend a day by the pool with a book from the small library, or book yourself on one of the lodges many trips. Activities on offer range from dolphin and whale watching, bird watching, an early morning game drive, fishing, kayaking on the Umngazi River, historical trips and much more.
Evenings are spent relaxing in the comfortable lounge and bar with a beer after a long day on the water.
The sardine run consists mostly of snorkelling as the bait-ball often moves quite fast and with snorkel gear it is easy to gain quick entry and exit on the boat. During this week you will scuba, snorkel and free dive, depending on the situation and the advice of your guide.
Your day begins at 8am with a weather check and a launch onto the bouncing surf through to the open ocean and the current line. Once out, you kit up and wait. Spotters scan the water for the tell-tale signs of the bait-balls forming: sea birds dropping like arrows and whales breaching.
With a packed lunch on the boat to keep your energy levels high, the day will draw to close at around 4pm when the boats head for home.
