Vilu Reef is a beautiful resort island in the remote South Nilhande Atoll. Accommodation
Garden Villas: The 20 Garden Villas are semi-detached rooms built within landscaped gardens. Simple yet stylish, they are spacious and comfortable with modern amenities including air-conditioning, minibar, satellite TV and partially open-air bathrooms.
Beach Villas:The 60 Beach Villas are individually appointed and circular in shape, depicting the shape of the renowned Nautilus shell. All rooms are equipped with ceiling fan, air-conditioning, room safe, minibar, IDD telephone, satellite television, a four-poster king size bed, a comfortable divan which can accommodate an additional third person, sitting area, writing desk, and a separate dressing area with full length mirror. The en-suite bathrooms are large with an open-air enclosed courtyard for maximum privacy. Bathroom amenities include bathtub, hot/cold water, hairdryer and toiletries. Double glass panelled doors lead out to a large timber deck, which overlooks the beautiful beach and lagoon. The rooms are luxuriously furnished with custom made teak furniture and lightings.
Jacuzzi Water Villas: There are 35 luxurious Jacuzzi Water Villas on the resort. Each villa is equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, a room safe, minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, spacious sitting area with custom made teak furniture, four-poster king size bed, IDD telephone, writing desk, satellite television and CD player. A luxury en-suite bathroom offers all amenities including toiletries, bathtub, bidet, hair dryer and hot/cold water. The Villas come with an extended deck overlooking the turquoise lagoon with chaise lounges for secluded sunbathing, a private Jacuzzi and a swim-up platform providing direct access to the lagoon through private stairs.
Honeymoon Water Villas: In addition to the facilities offered in the Jacuzzi Water Villas, the 5 Honeymoon Water Villas each come with a private steambath plus a separate living room with glass panelling on three sides offering stunning panoramic views of the lagoon.
Presidential Water Suite: The 2 Presidential Water Suites offer the height of luxury for those seeking ultimate comfort. Situated at the far end of the walkway, where the two footbridges meet, the suites offer complete privacy and un-paralleled views. The spectacular glass walled living room provides stunning views of the surroundings. The Suites are fitted with the finest furnishings and amenities, combining modern design classics and traditional Maldivian architecture. Each suite comprises 2 king-size bedrooms with four-poster beds, a luxury en-suite bathroom with designer amenities and a kitchenette. Outside on the double levelled timber deck is a private plunge pool, open-air Jacuzzi and chaise lounges. A staircase from the second level leads into the lagoon below.
Restaurants & Bars
Vilu Reef Beach Spa & Resort has a good choice of places to eat serving excellent food. There is a main restaurant serving buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner offering a range of local and international cuisine. Once a week there are themed buffet meals, which may include local or Asian specialities.
There is an A La Carte specialtiy restaurant offering fine dining, and romantic candlelit dinners can be arranged on request. There are three bars on the island; the main bar by the restaurant, a beach bar serving a range of beers, spirits, wines and cocktails perfect for sundowners and also a bar by the infinity pool. Beach BBQs are scheduled weekly and special Lobster Dinners can be arranged.
Excursions & Entertainment
Vilu Reef has a wealth of facilities to offer. Boat excursions to nearby islands are available along with aerial trips by seaplane over the islands and reefs for stunning photographic opportunities, and also big game fishing trips. On the island there is badminton, tennis, volleyball and snooker. In addition there is a childrens play area and babysitting services are available. There is also a fully equipped gymnasium and fitness room, souvenir shop and a jewellery shop.
The large and sheltered lagoon is perfect for watersports and there is a well equipped centre offering a range of activities that include catamaran sailing, windsurfing, wake boarding, surfing, canoeing, water-skiing and kite surfing. There is also a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the turquoise lagoon.
Spa: Set amongst the rich interior of the island is the Amaan Spa, offering an excellent range of massages and treatments, including traditional aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Swedish, Balinese, Thai and Shiatsu practices. The spa also offers special Hawaian lomi lomi, Body Masks and Javanese lulur treatments
Diving
On the north side of the island the house reef drop-off is impressive and beautiful. It is full of life and makes for great snorkelling and diving. Sharks, mantas and even whalesharks are commonly seen in this atoll. The Sun International Dive Centre has full equipment for hire and there are over 30 excellent dive sites in close proximity to the island with regular dive boat departures. Nitrox is available and the dive centre offers a full range of PADI training courses from beginner to Divemaster.
Travel Information
If you are travelling through or from the UK we can arrange flights on either award winning Emirates Airlines or Sri Lankan Airlines at very competitive fares. Emirates have a flexible schedule of departures on most days of the week from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow via Dubai. Sri Lankan airlines offer direct flights from Heathrow on certain days of the week and flights via Colombo at other times. If you would like to arrange your own flights, we can quote you a rate for your island accommodation that excludes flights.
