Introduction to Veligandu Island Resort
Veligandu is a beautiful 5 star resort situated in the quiet Rasdhoo Atoll, on the north-east side of North Ari Atoll. The island is fringed by white beaches with a vast sandbank extending into the turquoise lagoon on the southern end of the island. Veligandu has an excellent house reef for snorkelling and diving and Rasdhoo Atoll has some superb dive sites nearby, including Rasdhoo-Madivaru, which is one of the best sites in the Maldives to see hammerhead sharks.

Accommodation
Veligandu has a total of 74 Rooms, comprising 54 Jacuzzi Water Villas, 10 Water Villas and 10 Jacuzzi Beach Villas. All rooms are beautifully furnished with tropical décor and have a king-size bed, wooden floors, private sundeck with furniture, air conditioning, overhead ceiling fan, sitting area with 36 inch flat screen cable TV, DVD Player, broadband Internet connection, stocked Mini Bar with refrigerator, tea/coffee/espresso machine, IDD telephone, personal safe, spacious bathroom with rain shower, double sinks, bath accessories, hairdryer, nightly turndown service and complimentary use of chaise lounges at the beach and beach towels.
Jacuzzi Beach Villas: The 10 Jacuzzi Beach Villas are situated along the beachfront on the north-east side of the island. These very spacious rooms are the same size as the Jacuzzi Water Villas and feature the same partially open air bathroom and jacuzzi.
Water Villas: There are 10 water villas situated over the lagoon and reached by a boarded walkway. The Water Villas are very spacious with a large bedroom and sitting area and each water villa has a private sundeck with steps leading down to the sea.
Jacuzzi Water Villas: The 54 Jacuzzi Water Villas, spread over three separate areas of the island and reached by a boarded walkway, are luxurious hideaways with large bedroom and sitting area, a private sundeck with steps leading down to the sea and a partially open-air bathrooom complete with jacuzzi tub.
Restaurants & Bars
There are two restaurants and one bar on Veligandu Island Resort.
The Dhonveli Restaurant is the main dining room, with traditional sand floor and serves ‘all you can eat’ buffet style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of local and international cuisines to please everyone’s taste. There are also á la carte options, including in-villa dining, a Snack Menu at the Bar and Pool, and special Beach Dinners.
The Madivaru Restaurant, situated on the beach by the pool, offers a menu of fresh grilled seafood, and prime beef and Asian specialties.
The Thundi Bar is situated by the pool and has an al fresco deck overlooking the lagoon. The bar serves a wide choice of beers, spirits, wines and cocktails and light snacks are also available.
Excursions & Entertainment
Veligandu is a wonderful island resort in which to relax. The stunning white sandy beaches and magnificent lagoon are ideal for sunbathing and swimming and there is an excellent house reef for snorkeling and diving. There is a beautiful freshwater infinity swimming pool overlooking the beach and also a small children’s pool. Activities on the island include Beach Volleyball and Beach Badminton, and excursions include fishing trips, island visits and Robinson Crusoe day trips. There is also a fully equipped fitness centre with modern exercise equipment, a games room with table tennis, billiards, darts and table-soccer, and a TV lounge and library.
Spa: Veligandu Island Resort has a wonderful Over-Water-Spa, reached by a short walkway over the crystal clear lagoon. The Over-Water-Spa is the perfect environment to sooth your body, stimulate your mind and strengthen your spirit. A wide range of western and eastern massages and beauty treatments are offered and there is a sauna and steam room available.
Diving
Veligandu has a well equipped waterports centre for rental and instruction and offers a range of non-motorised watersports, including catamaran sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. The dive base on the island is run by Ocean-Pro Divers SCUBA Centre with daily guided boat diving to more than 20 local dive sites. Snorkelling boat trips, equipment and accessory sales, rental and repair, and a complete range of PADI Courses are also offered.
The diving around Rasdhoo Atoll is superb.There is no specific season for the mantas and you have the chance to see them on various dive sites throughout the year but there is usually a higher concentration of mantas in the months of December through March. White tip reef sharks can be seen on almost every dive, and the sighting of grown black tips is common. Grey reef sharks can be seen at Madivaru Corner and Kuramathi Thila and the big highlight is the "Big Blue" dives, where you have a good chance year-round to see hammerhead sharks.
Experienced divers can dive the excellent house reef independently in buddy teams and guided dives are available upon request. There are clearly marked entry and exit points around the island and you can expect to see eagle rays, reef sharks and turtles and good numbers of fish life in general. The large lagoon is well protected from the currents and is an ideal location for all of the PADI course training sessions that are available and usually the lagoon has excellent visibility.
Travel Information
If you are travelling through or from the UK we can arrange flights on either award winning Emirates Airlines or Sri Lankan Airlines at very competitive fares. Emirates have a flexible schedule of departures on most days of the week from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow via Dubai. Sri Lankan airlines offer direct flights from Heathrow on certain days of the week and flights via Colombo at other times. If you would like to arrange your own flights, we can quote you a rate for your island accommodation that excludes flights.
