Opened in December 1999, Velavaru Island Resort is one of only two resorts in the remote atoll of South Nilandhoo in the Southern part of the Maldives, 85km from the International Airport. Velavaru is small and quiet and is one of the most beautiful resorts in the Maldives. Aswell as a relaxed atmosphere and elegant accommodation, the beaches and the island's lagoon are stunning.

Velavaru has been built using traditional materials - from the thatched bungalows to the sand layered floors at the reception, restaurant and bar. The buildings blend in with their natural surroundings and tall coconut palms, typical of the islands in the Maldives, are plentiful. The island is just 500m by 200m.
