Introduction to Medhufushi Island Resort

Medhufushi is one of just two resorts in the remote Meemu Atoll. This is an extremely well-managed resort offering a very high standard of accommodation in stylish rooms with excellent facilities. 1000m long and just 200m wide, the island has a richly vegetated interior, a beautiful turquoise lagoon and stunning powder white beaches running the length of the resort. There is a beautiful half-moon swimming pool and a lounge/bar built on stilts over the water that offers a wonderful view across the Indian Ocean. Medhufushi is a truly beautiful resort.

Accommodation

There are 120 stylishly furnished rooms, all with thatched roofs, scattered around the island. Some are built on stilts over the water while others are set among the palms along the beachfront. All room types have air-conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar, hairdryers and hot and cold desalinated water in the bathrooms, Satellite TV and DVD player, telephone, in-villa safe, and tea and coffee making facilities.

Beach Villas: There are 58 semi-detached beach villas, 14 of which are inter-connecting and suitable for families. All rooms have four poster king-sized bed or twin beds, sofa, minibar, hairdryer, satellite TV and direct dial telephone. The bathrooms are part open-air and have hot and cold desalinated water. Double doors open onto a broad timber-decked area with comfortable seating and steps down to the beach where there are sun loungers and a traditional Maldivian Style Swing.

 

Beach Villa Suites: The Beach Villa Suites are similar to the Beach Villas but have the advantage of an inter-connecting door, making them ideal for friends and families. Each two villas share a large verandah with additional outdoor seating area. They also have slightly larger bathrooms complete with a bathtub.

 

Water Villas: There are 44 Water Villas built on stilts over the crystal clear blue lagoon. Water villas are detached and have a minibar, hairdryer, satellite TV and direct dial telephone. Double doors open on to a private wooden deck area complete with Maldivian swing seat and steps leading down into the shallow lagoon. The bedrooms are glass-fronted offering spectacular views across the lagoon and the bathrooms have a seperate bathtub and walk-in shower.

 

Honeymoon Water Villas: Situated out in the lagoon and totally detached are two free-standing honeymoon villas, reached by private boat. These stunning villas have a king-size Four Poster bed and in the large bathroom there is a double bathtub offering breathtaking views across the sea. There is a large sitting area and sunbathing deck and an open-air rain shower.

 

Restaurants & Bars

Medhufushi is famous for it’s exquisite range of culinary delights and there are two restaurants on the island and one main bar. Situated alongside the swimming pool and overlooking the magnificent lagoon is the Malaafaiy Restaurant, serving International and Asian cuisine, Sahimi/Sushi, home-made pastries, jams and breads and a very good New World wine list.

 

Located over the water on stilts is the Al Fresco Restaurant, a beautiful open-air setting in which to enjoy the soothing tropical breeze whilst listening to the calming sounds of the waves. The excellent restaurant serves wonderful a la carte meals, sensational cocktails and a wide selection of New World wines. Situated over the water is the Vilu Bar, a stunning setting in which to relax while enjoying a wide selection of beers, spirits, wines and cocktails and an extensive range of snacks.

Excursions & Entertainment

Medhufushi has a sports complex which includes a 24 hour air-conditioned gymnasium, swimming pool and sun terraces. Table tennis and volleyball are offered and available water sports include canoeing, catamaran sailing, water-skiing and kite-surfing.

 

Spa: Medhufushi also has a wonderful over-water Spa, offering a wide range of soothing massages, pedicures and beauty treatments.

Diving

The spaciously built and well run Werner Lau dive centre has experienced staff with an excellent knowledge of the surrounding reefs and islands. The Dive School is superbly equipped with a range of modern and well maintained equipment and as well as the usual stock of regulators and stab jackets, the school has a couple of Scubapro underwater scooters.

 

Boat diving is available every day with diving boats departing at 9.00 and 14.30 to around 30 dive sites, ranging from 5 to 60 minutes by boat. The Dive Centre also offers whole day trips 2 - 3 times per week to long range dive sites. The centre offers a full range of PADI and CMAS dive courses from beginner through to Divemaster.

Travel Information

If you are travelling through or from the UK we can arrange flights on either award winning Emirates Airlines or Sri Lankan Airlines at very competitive fares. Emirates have a flexible schedule of departures on most days of the week from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow via Dubai. Sri Lankan airlines offer direct flights from Heathrow on certain days of the week and flights via Colombo at other times. If you would like to arrange your own flights, we can quote you a rate for your island accommodation that excludes flights.

With such flexibility in air travel you can choose to stay on your selected island for any number of days you would like.
