Introduction to Maayafushi Island Resort

Situated in North Ari Atoll, Maayafushi is a stunning small, round island renowned for it's excellent diving. The beaches are beautiful and the island's turquoise lagoon is protected and offers opportunities for great watersports. Excellent food is served and this all-inclusive resort offers really good value. This is a diver's island with an accessible house reef and some of the very best dives in the Maldives located close by, including sites such as Maaya Thila, Fish Head and Fesdhu Wreck.

Accommodation

Beach Bungalows: There are 60 stylishly furnished single-storey Maldivian style bungalows situated directly on the beach, plus a further 7 set back slightly from the beachline and complete with their own private walled garden and open-air bathroom. Each bungalow has a wooden roof, covered by palm leaves, and feature air-conditioning, ceiling fan, telephone, minibar, safe, and hair dryer.

Superior Rooms: There are just 4 Superior Rooms on the island, located in the centre of the island, just a few steps away from the sea, restaurant, bar and reception. The Superior Rooms can accommodate up to 4 people, sp perfect for families adn friends, have a private verandah. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, telephone, minibar, safe, and hair dryer.

Water Villas: Eight Water Bungalows are located directly over the water in the turquoise lagoon with private access to the sea. Beautifully furnished and with a private terrace, each villa is equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, telephone, minibar, safe, and hair dryer.

Restaurants & Bars

There is one main bar and restaurant and a small coffee shop serving snacks throughout the day. Housed in a large, spacious thatched building the bar and restaurant are sand-floored and informal. As an all-inclusive resort, three meals a day are served in the restaurant as a combination of set meals and buffet style. The food is to an excellent standard and wine, beer, soft drinks and water are included.

Excursions & Entertainment

The lagoon at Maayafushi is excellent for windsurfing and catamaran sailing and the watersports centre also has a small number of canoes. Use of the windsurfs and canoes are included in the all inclusive package and other facilities on the island include a gymnasium, massage centre, boutique, table tennis, and internet access point.

Diving

The Maayafushi Dive Centre offers a range of PADI courses taught in a number of languages. Boat diving is available every day with boats departing to some of the most well known sites in the Maldives. Indeed their own thila, Maaya Thila, is a superb dive with grey reef sharks and an amazing array of underwater life and is one of the best night dives you will ever do!

Add to this Halaveli Wreck, Fesdu Wreck, Fish Head and Maalos Thila and you have a tremendous variety of diving on offer. The Dive Centre also runs full day trips to long range sites where you may see some more unsual species, such as Hammerhead Point in Rasdu Atoll. The island’s house reef is easily accessible from the eastern side and offers good shore diving and snorkelling.

Travel Information

If you are travelling through or from the UK we can arrange flights on either award winning Emirates Airlines or Sri Lankan Airlines at very competitive fares. Emirates have a flexible schedule of departures on most days of the week from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow via Dubai. Sri Lankan airlines offer direct flights from Heathrow on certain days of the week and flights via Colombo at other times. If you would like to arrange your own flights, we can quote you a rate for your island accommodation that excludes flights. Both Emirates and Sri Lankna Ailrines offer 30kgs for divers carrying dive equipment.

With such flexibility in air travel you can choose to stay on your selected island for any number of days you would like. For the ultimate Maldives experience we highly recommend you combine your stay on an island with a fantastic week onboard one of our liveaboards, the Sea Queen or Sea Spirit.

Sample itinerary travelling on Sri Lankan Airlines from London Heathrow with 7 nights on an island:
