Truk Lagoon - 11th to 26th February 2014 *** SAVE £828pp ***
** WAS £2,675 / NOW £1,847 ** In February it will be exactly 70 years since the US army laid siege to Truk Lagoon, executing their devastating aerial bombardment known as ‘Operation Hailstone’, in a bid to destroy the Japanese navy’s forward military base stationed there, and in retaliation for their attack on Pearl Harbour. ‘Operation Hailstone’ was a relentless assault, lasting two days over 17 and 18 February 1944, during which 30 waves of American bombers destroyed over 60 vessels and around 250 Japanese planes.
Contrary to popular belief, diving in Truk Lagoon is actually pretty easy. Being a sheltered lagoon there is little current to deal with and sea conditions are usually very favourable. The water is warm and visibility can often exceed 30m – allowing divers the opportunity to take in the sheer size of these wrecks as they slowly descend onto them. Some wrecks are in very shallow waters – just a few meters below the surface – while the deepest is at 65m. Typically, the wrecks lie in waters between 28m – 45m, so they are easily accessible to experienced divers.
Our 'Exclusive Tour' is planned to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of 'Operation Hailstone' making this is an unique opportunity to dive this amazing destination.
