Safety and Communications

MV Sea Spirit and the dive support vessel carry the locally used CB radio and marine VHF as well as mobile phones. Sea Spirit is in constant contact with the offices in Male and the UK. Both Sea Spirit and her dive support boat carry lifejackets for all passengers and are equipped with GPS and echo sounders. The Maldivian Government has a strict policy of safety inspection and all our vessels comply fully with their requirements.

All our staff are very experienced and fully trained in liveaboard procedures. Sea Spirit and her Dive Tender carry emergency oxygen sets and an emergency first aid kit. We insist on divers carrying a safety sausage or a dive flag which we provide and demonstrate during the "check-out" dive. We put a great emphasis on safety and staff training aboard all our vessels. This extends through to our programme of boat maintenance and you will see a consistent schedule of boat maintenance periods throughout our season so that we can ensure these high standards are met.

Other Activities and Entertainment during your trip

There's plenty to do on a liveaboard dive trip apart from just diving ! We arrange visits to the local islands for souvenir shopping, where visitors are always made welcome. Sea Spirit has a 17ft tender and when possible, we take guests to uninhabited islands and we arrange barbeques and visits to resort islands. In addition fishing gear is available and there are lots of opportunities to snorkel and swim in the beautiful turquoise lagoons. At the end of the trip, there is usually the chance to visit the capital island of Male to see the busy local bazaars and fish market.

On board the boat, we often have slide shows and DVD presentations of other destinations and expeditions such as Cocos Island, Costa Rica and the Galapagos islands.
